Interact 30 Hour Fast
The Interact Club of Don Ross Secondary School will be holding its annual 30 Hour Fast on March 26th, 2010. The fast will start early in the morning of Friday, March 26th at 5:00AM. Students will eat their last meal for 30 hours at this time. After school is over, students will return to the school at 7:00PM and will continue to fast until 11:00AM the next morning, Saturday, March 27th. The fast will last for just over 30 hours.
The goal of this event is to help students understand the conditions that so many people around the world suffer. These conditions are caused by long term water, sleep and food deprivation. By contrast the only scarcity affecting those participating in the fast will be a lack of food for thirty hours. Still, their awareness will be heightened. Students at this event will be asked to raise a minimum of $75.00 before the event. If they do not reach this goal, students will be required to pay the difference with their own money if they wish to attend.
Students will not be permitted to leave the school building upon arriving after school at 5:00PM for the night stay at Don Ross. Activities will be organized for the evening portion of the 26th and morning of the 27th. In addition, parent supervisors and students will prepare a breakfast to mark the end of the event. During the after-school hours of the 30 Hour Fast there will be a minimum of four supervisors (including parents and teachers). We are hoping that some parents will be willing to step up to help this event happen. Please contact Mrs. Potter-Davey if you are interested in supervising for part of the evening, night or next morning. Parents must transport their teenager to and from the school. There will be a teacher supervisor present before students arrive and will stay until the last student has been picked up on Saturday.
Please help us to reach our goal of $3000.00 this year. All funds raised will go towards our major international project, the Emmanuel Boyz Rescue Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. The Emmanuel Boyz Rescue Center is a school that takes in boys who were living on the streets and provides schooling and shelter. This center has strong connections to many members of the Squamish community. If you have any further questions regarding the 30 Hour Fast or Emmanuel Boys Rescue Centre, please contact Mrs. Potter-Davey at 604-898-3671 ext. 116.
We will be posting meetings on this site.
